“Kaya kung minsan kahit masarap ang pagkain, hindi niya malunok…” – Gerry Magnaye explaining Lindy's condition
Since I woke up late and wasn’t able to ask enough dough from mother dear, I headed to the Music Museum. And – since – I do not intend to stress out myself on a weekend, wala ng patumpik-tumpik pa, doon na lang.
The crowd didn’t occupy the entire venue but a good number of people attended the benefit concert last Saturday. Despite the uncontrollable rains that evening, the show was held for one reason…To support the imminent spinal column operation of Lindy Magnaye, wife of 99.5 Rt deejay Gerry. He was supported by his fellas from the music industry. Heart pounding songs were performed by equally talented musicians such as The Sunflower day camp, Cryola, Mayonaisse, The Out of Body Special, DRT and of course the magnanimous Razorback.
Watching Razorback, POT, Indio I, Wolfgang and their contemporaries allow me to relive my iskul bukol days. I started to be mesmerized by their music during high school. Rak n roll, peace, mosh pit…, good vibes, bad vibes, ukay to the real haven of affordable yet fashionably in clothes – BAMBANG, DM’s, umbel – but during our time the term evolved from bell bottoms to flared jeans, collegiate look, skin head, big sky mind, short hair, undercut, syeteng buhok, siomai na may quail eggs, mayrics, club dredd, bibong bibo sa tsubibo ni Lobarbio, using egg white as your gel so that our crowning glory will stand till the end of time regardless of its stinky smell… These plus the music were just some of the influences we had back then.
The volatile band Razorback has been circulating in the industry since 1993. Interestingly, nothing has changed. The music that I first heard several years ago is still the same music that I listened to last Saturday. With its unparalleled prowess, Razorback never failed to hype up the audience by singing some of their old skool songs.
“Sino bang nagpapaikot ng mundo…Pakipara na po at bababa na ako…”
Shucks, I can’t wait for their anniversary concert on October.
To Karl, pasensya I chose brother Kevin that night.
To Gerry and Lindy, prayers and courage.
